Many Patients & New Patients wonder: What exactly is a Prosthodontist?


Whether you are a new patient or have been with us for a while, you may not completely understand what a Prosthodontist is. Prosthodontists are experts in the restoration and replacement of teeth dedicated to the highest standards of care. They make smiles look beautiful as well as functional; the way they should be. Prosthodontists receive an extra 2-3 years of specialized training in a graduate program accredited by the American Dental Association. This field of dentistry is one out of the nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association.

Dr. Jansen is a Prosthodontist. Prosthodontists and like to think of themselves as the “quarterback” of a dental treatment plan. Dr. Jansen will help lead the team of general dentists and other dental specialists to develop your dental treatment plan. Our office provides personalized attention to each and every patient and will form a plan unique to your needs with your health concerns in mind. Our entire staff is highly trained and will assist you in oral hygiene and administrative matters.

Get Acquainted with Dr. Jansen

Dr. Jansen graduated from the University of the Pacific in 1982 and The University of Southern California (USC) School of Dentistry in 1986. Upon graduation he accepted a teaching position at USC and was accepted into the Advanced Education in Prosthodontics Graduate Program. He received his certificate in Prosthodontics in 1988 from the USC School of Dentistry.

In 1988 Dr. Jansen began a private practice in Beverly Hills, California and continued teaching part time at USC. He then accepted a full time teaching position at USC in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and was named Director of Implant Dentistry. Dr. Jansen over saw both the surgical and restorative aspects of dental implant placement and restoration. During this time he developed material to help both surgeons and restorative dentists with their patient treatment. Dr. Jansen began lecturing to groups of dental study clubs and local and statewide dental associations around the country.

In 1992 Dr. Jansen moved to Florida to work with a dental implant manufacturer. He obtained his Florida dental license and practiced part time in West Palm Beach with a group of three oral surgeons. There he concentrated on restorative complications. Working with the dental implant manufacturer, he helped develop and patent implant components used in many restorative implant procedures today. Dr. Jansen also traveled extensively to dental schools here in the United States and around the world teaching about treatment planning and restoring dental implants.

Dr. Jansen moved to Monterey, California in 1996 and began his private Prosthodontic practice. Shortly afterward, he started an on-premises dental laboratory. After 15 years of practicing, Dr. Jansen continues to lecture at least one day a week while seeing patients 4 days a week. His lectures include speaking to dental specialty groups, dental associations, dental study clubs, year long mentor programs, live surgical/restorative programs, and dental auxiliary programs. He is a member of the American College of Prosthodontists, the Academy of Osseointegration, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the Monterey Bay Dental Society. He is also a fellow of the American College of Dentists.

Dr. Jansen is married and he and his wife are raising three children; all boys.
